WRINKLE RELA IN YOUR BUM! Who knew?!
If you're going to get any Botox in any part of your body, make sure you find someone who knows what they're doing. Find the best medically qualified practitioners, right here.
The Love Island women knew - obvs! Former contestant Megan Barton Hanson, who isn't shy of a tweakment or two, shared a video on Instagram earlier this week showing her having wrinkle relaxing injections in her bum?!?
'So turns out Botox isn't just for wrinkles! It helps give your [peach emoji] a little lift too,' the Love Island star, 27, told her fans, alongside a video of her bottom being jabbed with a bit of the neurotoxin, Botox.
Megan says Botox in the Bum helps to give it a subtle lift
I was a little suspicious of this treatment. We write a fair bit about wrinkle relaxing and its uses, but I've never come across it being injected in to the butt?! A quick Google search suggests some clinics are offering it to 'lift the bum' suggesting that the muscle-relaxing toxin is injected below the buttocks to relax the “pull down” muscles and allow the “pull up” muscles to work more effectively.
We asked some medically-qualified Glowday practitioners what they thought and Glowday is pretty confident with advising you to save your money and not bother putting toxin in your bum! While it will do wonders for your crows feet and frown lines, we're not sure it's going to perk those bottom cheeks up sufficiently.
Dr Steve Land, from Novellus Aesthetics said: "It’s pointless. I can’t imagine a mechanism whereby muscle relaxing toxins in your buttocks is going to make any noticeable difference. Filler, maybe. But not toxin."
Bum shapes are a thing!
While a "Botox Bum Lift" is probably not going to get you the results you want, using fillers to enhance your derrière is a more commonly practised treatment. One of the most popular products used for this is Sculptra, which works by thickening the skin and stimulating collagen growth - both of which contribute to a perkier-shaped bum. Unlike the Brazilian butt lift, which grafts fat from one area to another (and is VERY high risk and not approved in the UK - there have been a number of deaths following this procedure ), Sculptra uses FDA-approved dermal fillers to enhance curves and can give more heart-shaped buttocks (apparently these are most desired!). This treatment usually involves 2 or 3 sessions of bum injections, with each session 1 month apart. Results take around 3 months to become fully visible and last for 2 years, at which point the treatment can be topped up or repeated.
It's certainly not as risky as plastic surgery but of course it still carries risks. Indeed, Sculptra isn't FDA approved for use in the bum, only in the face, so we urge caution if you're tempted to try this treatment. The main risks are:
Possibly, it really depends on what you're looking to achieve. If we're talking about reducing fat generally, then CoolSculpting and SculpSure, have become so popular in the last few years and may be an option.
Both FDA-approved, non-invasive aesthetic treatments, able to permanently destroy fat cells from the thighs, tummy, upper arms, flanks and under the chin, via lipolysis. The two have quite a bit in common - but there are some key differences.
The main difference between CoolSculpting and SculpSure is the technology behind them. CoolSculpting is a type of cryolipolysis (or fat freezing to you and me). This means that the fat is targeted using really cold temperatures, which crystallise the fat cells and break them down, but don’t damage the skin. A vacuum applicator is placed on the target area, and this works by sucking up the skin in that area. Once the fat is in place, the plates are cooled right down.
Instead, SculpSure uses laser technology that heats and melts the fat cells. A belt is wrapped around the area being treated, and templates that change in temperature are inserted into the belt to target the area of fat.
Both of the fat reduction treatments kill off the fat cells for good, and the cells are naturally removed via the liver. Bye-bye fat!
We're going to say no. Botulinum toxin can be great for treating static lines and wrinkles and addressing ageing concerns, the impact can be life-changing for that person, and totally improve their confidence and self-esteem. It is also used to treat excessive teeth grinding, excessive sweating and even migraines . But for your bum? No. Treat yourself to some new knickers instead!
