More than just your standard facial, Hydrafacial has become huge all over the world - with one carried out every 15 seconds (yep, you did read that correctly). So, what is it about the Hydrafacial that people just can’t get enough of? Let me take you through the five glow-inducing steps.
Hydrafacial: 5 Steps to Hydrated Skin
What is the Hydrafacial and how does it work?
The Hydrafacial, often referred to as hydradermabrasion, is a multi-step (5, to be precise) facial that works wonders by removing dead skin cells, unclogging pores, (eeek) and, of course, hydrating to give brighter, smoother skin. What a dream!
One of the greatest things about the Hydrafacial is that it’s suitable for pretty much everyone - regardless of age, skin type and tone. Perfect!
So, how does this blooming awesome treatment work? Well, the Hydrafacial is conducted using a specially designed handpiece on which specific tips can be fitted for the different stages of the treatment.
What are the 5 steps in a hydrafacial treatment?
1) Detox
After cleansing (and potentially steaming) your face comes the first stage in your Hydrafacial journey: the detox. To detox your skin, your practitioner will use a blue tip that provides the skin with an intense water-based solution. The intensity of this water blast creates lymphatic drainage, increasing blood flow and draining toxins from the skin.
2) Cleanse
We all love a good cleanse, but the Hydrafacial takes cleansing to a new level, washing away any dead skin cells and sebum (oily matter) from the skin’s surface.
3) Exfoliation
Next comes the exfoliation stage - but the tip that’s used really depends on how much of an exfoliation your skin needs. Options include teal, orange (for aggressive exfoliation) or purple (for enhanced aggressive exfoliation), and your practitioner will choose this accordingly.
Chemical exfoliants such as glycolic and salicylic acid are applied to the skin in appropriate strengths, via the tip, and get straight to work. They’re left on for between just 30 seconds and 2 minutes. And the fun part? The acids are then suctioned off the skin along with the dead skin cells on the surface. Goodbye and good riddance!
4) Extraction
Another bit to get excited about is when the suction is increased to unblock clogged pores. Oh yes - you can almost feel them sighing relief as they can finally breathe again. For those with problematic T-zones, don’t panic. Extra salicylic acid is sometimes used in this step to get rid of those pesky blackheads.
5) Hydration
The last leg of the Hydrafacial journey is pure, blissful hydration that, if your skin is anything like mine, has probably been crying out for. So, how exactly does this happen? Well, a unique Hydrafacial serum, which includes a snazzy mixture of antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid, is applied to the skin, with a bit of welly, to make sure you have well and truly absorbed it. And you’re done!
What are the main benefits of Hydrafacial?
So, as you can probably imagine, after this 5-step treatment, your skin should be feeling pretty fabulous - not to mention looking incredible. Fresh, clear and super hydrated.
To get the very best results, a course of 4 treatments is often recommended, and, obviously, you’ll probably want to maintain the amazing results with regular treatments.
