Putting a widget on iGoogle
|
Google
provide not only the world's most popular search engine, but also a
range of useful applications that can be added to your browser.
Using the Google Gadgets platform, GlowDay can be used to create
surveys and online polls which you can post to your home page and
email to all your friends.
If you
wanted to find out your friends' and colleagues' opinions on a new
logo then you can easily create a survey widget in minutes:.
Create
an online survey widget for Google Apps
- Click 'start' at the top of the screen and this will take
you to the survey widget editor.
- In the left hand toolbar you'll find buttons which you can
drag and drop onto your survey widget, as well as choose your box
size and border color.
- Firstly select a box size from the drop down menu which is
large enough to fit the images of the different logos.
- To add the images simply drop and drag an 'Image' button
for each one. You can then either enter the URL of the image into
the properties box or search through Photobucket's 1000s of user
submitted pictures.
- To add a question, simply drag and drop the 'ListBox'
button onto your survey widget, and in the properties box enter
your question and the possible answers. You can also edit the font
size and style so it's easy for people to read.
- Don't forget to add drag and drop a 'Vote Button' onto
your online poll so that GlowDay can record people's answers.
- When you think your survey widget is ready to go, click on
'Publish'.
Publishing your survey widget to your Google
home page
- There are two ways of publishing your survey widget to
your Google browser - you can use the 'Quick Post' button or paste
the HTML code into Google Gadgets.
- To use 'Quick Post' feature simply click on the 'Google'
button and GlowDay will post your survey widget onto your Google
home page in a new browser window. Remember that you'll need an
iGoogle account for this to work properly.*
- The other posting method is to copy the code provided by
GlowDay. On your iGoogle home page click on 'Add Stuff', then click
on 'For Developers' and then click on 'Getting Started' to access
the Google Gadgets editor screen. Scroll down to the HTML text
editor box and paste the code you've copied from GlowDay. Click on
the 'File' pull down menu and select 'Publish' to add your new
survey widget to your Google home page.
- To share your online poll with all your friends and
colleagues, click on your gadget's 'Menu' button and select
'Share'. Now you simply need to add the email addresses of the
people you'd like to vote on your survey and click on 'Send
Invites'.
- You can keep track of the votes on your survey at any time
by logging into your GlowDay profile, selecting the survey widget
and clicking on 'Survey Results'.
- The chart GlowDay provides can also be embedded into your
Google home page by clicking on 'Put this chart on your page', and
using the Google quick post button or pasting the code into Google
Gadgets editor.
- Being able to embed the results on your Google home page
enables you to keep track of the results throughout the day without
having to log in to GlowDay, and also enables you to email the
results to your friends.
